Norfolk open fields mission - May 2023
George Martin reports.
I would love to say I had a vision for the Walk North Norfolk 2023 but what I imagined would happen seem to change. Having prayed about it and asked TFM HQ, I was given the go ahead before Christmas 2022. I rang the two vicars I know in the Saxon Shore benefice ,Hunstanton, Old Hunstanton, Holme next the Sea, Thornham, Titchwell, Brancaster and Burnham Deepdale only to be told they were both leaving for pastures new before Easter. Good start!?
The idea then appeared of having two teams one along the coast and one walking parallel inland from Dersingham to Burnham Deepdale so that's what we did, almost. The church at Burnham Deepdale became unavailable two weeks before due to the interior decorating not being finished. We were given a phone number in the Burnhams, there are 6, and were welcomed with offers of accommodation and food for both teams on the last night in Burnham Overy Town church. The week before I prayed in and round every church on both routes except Burnham Overy Town. Both teams set off from the commissioning service at Hunstanton in fine fettle , the inland team drove to Dersingham.
Maureen Keepin led the coastal team of Paul Hamilton and David Pickavance while I was with Tom Robinson, Ev Tate and Christian Hughes, Christian joined us as a first timer. We were very blessed with the weather and God's blessings of people to talk about Jesus Christ too.
On the Wednesday morning I felt God say to me, you're not trusting me for everything. I knew what He meant as Andy and June Gibson our back up team had supplied us with 2 evening meals so I said to myself from now on we rely on God for everything. As I got dressed, I saw Christian talking to a man at the door of the church, 7.30am ish. I heard the man say ‘You must come to ours at 9am and have a shower and while you're there you can have breakfast”. What an amazing God we have. The man also gave us supper that night and breakfast next morning as well as offering to let us use his washing machine. Good measure pressed down and running over.
I realise this type of mission, which has very loose arrangements, is not for everyone but I love it.
We did about 150 questionnaires gave away 200 plus KGPs and spoke to lots of people who, I doubt we would have reached otherwise. I pray we never got in God's way on this adventure.
We always seemed to be the right person in the right place at the right time. For example, the postman who is only home during the day we called, said he would ask Jesus into his life; the Welsh couple who walked into the church we were sleeping in and were led to the Lord; the Jewish lady who came to look in another church when we had just finished the healing service and became a Christian while talking to Ev and Paul. She couldn't stop thanking them. The lady sitting in the sun who wanted prayer for the tests she was having the next week, she was dreading the worse. The lady who wanted prayer who was just shutting her gate. Oh and lots more.
Lastly I must thank our Prayer Warriors ably led by Lambrini and Mark Featherston, we know that their prayers bore much fruit. Thank you.
